After unbeaten 1st season in Regionals
Our final match of the season in Team Tennis took place on Sunday 17th June with an away match at Sevenoaks. Our Ladies were guaranteed to secure top spot in the division as long as they won one of the six rubbers that day. Our team of six players included two players who had helped us gain promotion to the Regional Tier last summer – Abby Amos and India Ampaw – neither of whom had played a match yet this season. Joining them were Dani, Laura, Lucy C and Jodie. And let’s not forget the support team of Lydia, Kim, Fiona and Sarah. After we had finished catching up and admiring the clubhouse, which sat high above the courts, play got underway on the clay.
Jodie, Dani, Abby and Lucy all got off to flying starts, coping well with the windy conditions. All of the matches were played in a great spirit, and our girls finished in numerical playing order, all securing comfortable straight sets victories. Dani and Lucy joined the supporters on the balcony, as Laura joined her regular partner, Jodie, and Abby was joined by India for the two doubles rubbers. As a new pairing at doubles 2, Abby and India, who have both had a lot of time out through injuries over the past year, combined really well and lost only one game! Jodie and Laura, who were playing together for the 45th time representing the club, made it a clean sweep and another 12-0 victory!
It was a fitting end to an amazing season where our team has dominated the division and secured promotion to the National Tier at the first time of asking. The ladies who have played for us this season have a great bond and are looking forward to the challenges of next season!
